It’s a new look for the annual schooner races on the South Shore.
The Nova Scotia Schooners Association will honour a founding member this year by hosting an all female skippers race and a new trophy.
Willa Creighton passed away recently, she sailed a Tancook Island schooner to victory in the inaugural race in 1961.
Spokesperons Wendy Levo says it’s a fitting tribute.
“She was one of the founding members of the schooner association and won the inaugural race, so we decided to name the trophy after Willa,”
Roughly 10 to 20 schooners are expected to arrive for the races.
They kick off in Mahone Bay on August 3.
