Lunenburg Council Moves To Accept Home-Based Business

Lunenburg Town Council has approved dog grooming as an acceptable home-based business.

The issue came to a head in January when Jenn Sinclair made plans to buy a home in Lunenburg with the intention of running a dog grooming business.

She was initially told her business was allowed, but weeks later was informed she was given the wrong information.

The town expedited the review process and cleared the way for Sinclair to open last month.

“It’s encouraging that they’re trying to see the light about the home-businesses. And once we got the ball finally rolling, I found everybody pretty easy-going about getting it done.”

Mayor Rachel Bailey says council didn’t want to discourage people from moving to the town and worked to expedite a change to the bylaw.

“Part of the fact that we were able to get through the process rather quickly was that there really wasn’t opposition to allowing for a dog grooming business with the conditions that are already in place in the by-law.”

Sinclair is now working to sell her home in Halifax and looks forward to setting up shop in Lunenburg as soon as she can.
