NDP Leader Gary Burrill is making another election promise on the South Shore.
He plans to reverse the Liberal government’s $380,000 worth of cuts to seven nursing homes in Lunenburg, Queens and Shelburne counties.
The NDP plan will see more than $8-million restored to nursing homes province-wide.
Burill says health care is their top priority but feels it isn’t for the Liberals.
“Making a balanced budget the absolute be all and end all priority and then cutting health care services in order to reach it; we think this is exactly the wrong approach.”
Burrill says the cuts have impacted seniors through lower food quality, less programming and fewer staff to take care of residents.
He says the money will make up for funding cuts made by the McNeil government over the last two years.
“It’s a serious matter. It was a serious mispriority, I think, on the government’s part to have gone down this road.”
Burrill was joined by Queens-Shelburne MLA Sterling Belliveau and candidates John Davis and Lisa Norman for the announcement.

He is campaigning today in Lockeport, Port Medway and Mill Village.
