Several kids in Lunenburg County will soon be feeling the freedom of life on two wheels.
The United Way’s annual Bikes for Kids campaign is underway.
Each year, the organization collects bikes from the community to be reconditioned and returned to kids.
Students in the diesel repair program at NSCC Lunenburg Campus lent their skills to get some of the bikes back on the road.
Academic Chair for Trades and Technologies, Blair Lipsett says it was a great fit for the students.
“This was a nice way to implement their mechanical skills on a much smaller scale and also to look at what they could potentially be giving to someone that they would see in their community that didn’t have a bike.”
Lipsett says this was a great opportunity for the college to help.
“We really want to be a part of the community. And different things like the United Way Bikes For Kids allows us to offer services that we have within our walls that are applicable to helping out others.”
Kids will receive the bikes on June 8 at Bridgewater Mall.
