Bernadette Jordan Prepares To Mentor Young Women

Bernadette Jordan will be spending some time with a group of women in Lunenburg County.

It’s part of a project aimed at mentoring the next generation of community leaders.

The Liberal MP was the first woman to be elected to South Shore St.-Margaret’s since the riding was created.

She says she knows what it’s like to be treated differently then her male colleagues.

“I’ve been told ‘You’re starting kind of high up, maybe you should start at the municipal level and work your way up,’” she says, “Did anyone ever say to Justin Trudeau ‘you should start in municipal politics?’ Why would they say that to me?”

Jordan says it’s more important than ever to invite women to the table.

“There are a lot of people who say ‘oh, I don’t care if it’s a man or a woman as long as they do a good job.’ I agree. But, at the same time I think women need to be encouraged.”

Jordan says she’s happy to share her own experiences if it will help show that success is possible.

Jordan says she also looks forward to hearing what they have to say.

The gathering is planned for April 7th.
