Lunenburg County Construction and Engineering Flight Honoured

A plaque to commemorate those who served in Afghanistan has been presented to the Construction and Engineering Flight in Lunenburg County.

Major Rick Leighton says hundreds of CEF members were stationed in Kabul between 2001 and 2011.

They’ve been honoured not only for their work but because all members came back alive.

“We still have folks that battle daemons,” he says, “who are still trying to recover both mentally and physically from the Afghanistan conflict. So, that does mean a great deal to us–that everyone did survive.”

He says they weren’t looking for recognition but it’s still nice to receive.

“Most of the squadron lived in Afghanistan for the better part of those 10 years. So, it’s a great honour to receive that and we’ll display it proudly over at our headquarters.”

CP Rail is creating one plaque for every Canadian who lost their life serving in Afghanistan.

This is the first plaque presented to a squadron where all members returned home.
