Five women in Atlantic Canada are being given the chance to become filmmakers.
A program called 1-K Wave aims to support women who are often under represented in the industry.
Halifax selectee, Koumbie says you can’t hesitate when an opportunity like this comes along.
“It’s about jumping in and just doing it,” she says. “So, this feels like the perfect, sort of, safe, scary, crazy way to get my first feature done.”
She says when it comes to storytelling the more unique voices the better.
“Talking about diversity and inclusion, I mean, that’s a lot of the work that I do and this is just the perfect way to jump in. I’m so glad that there are programs like this.”
Three of the five women selected are from Nova Scotia.
Each woman was given a thousand dollars, five months, and a mentor to help them tell their story.
Koumbie starts writing this week with a screening of the final feature in September.
