The province is investing in expanded sexual assault services on the South Shore.
Nova Scotia Health Authority spokesperson, Lindsay Peach says registered nurses will be specially trained to collect medical evidence.
She says what they find could be used to press charges and may encourage more survivors to report.
“Expanding the sites in which the service is available to individuals will certainly, we suspect, encourage more individuals to come forward to feel that support,” she says.
700-thousand dollars has been allocated to expand services in eastern and western Nova Scotia.
The health authority hopes to launch the new service by late spring.
