Bridgewater Councillor Hopes HRM Strategy Will Attract More People To Lunenburg County

A Bridgewater councillor is hoping to reap the benefits of a nearby municipality.

The Halifax Regional Municipality has approved a five-year strategy to try and increase their population by 50,000 people by 2021.

Andrew Tanner believes the strategy could attract people to Lunenburg County.

“I think Bridgewater is changing quite dramatically over the last couple of years and I think there is certainly a lot more happening down here that will attract young perofessionals and middle-age professionals.”

Tanner says many local businesses have jobs to fill including Michelin.

He says other places like Mahone Bay, Chester, Lunenburg will make an impression on people looking to get away from the city.

The province is predicting 100,000 fewer people of working age and 60,000 more people over the age of 65 by 2036.
