Student Committee Recieves Provincial Support

A group of students has been given $4,000 to write a song for sexual assault awareness month.

The South Shore Youth Advisory Committee is made up of around a dozen students from several schools in the region.

Grad 12 Student Braden Newell says the song has an important message about protecting yourself and your friends.

“Just make sure you’re both safe,” he says. “So, whether it’s you’re safe at the party or a safe drive home, it’s to project that positive message and remind people to do that.”

Newell says music is a great way to get the message out.

“I really want to see the song to project that positive change. So, I want it that teenagers are being a little bit safer, being more aware, and really looking out for each other.

Newell says they’ll be using the money to produce and distribute the song.

They plan to have the project complete by the end of the school year.
