Chester: Municipal Councillor Bob Myra Passes Away

A long-time councillor in the Municipality of Chester has passed away.

Bob Myra grew up locally and lived in Martin’s Point.

He died over the weekend at the age of 71.

Friend and colleague, Warden Allen Webber, says the news came as a shock.

He remembers Myra as an avid Montreal Canadiens fan.

“He had everything from underwear to seat cushions for his car. Everything was Montreal Canadiens.”

Webber says Myra was a people person, who was outgoing and developed many friendships in the community because of his personality.

Myra served on Chester council since 1997.

He was also very active in the community with the Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge and Philae Shriners.

He also coached minor baseball and hockey for years.

Webber says the municipality has yet to determine if Myra’s seat on council will be filled or left vacant until this fall’s municipal election.

Myra is survived by his wife, five children and four grandchildren.

Others also tweeted at the loss of Bob Myra.
