Crews Ready As Snow Starts To Fly

The snow is starting to fly and plow crews are ready.

Glen Strang, Area Manager for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal says they’ve been preparing since fall.

He says when a storm is forecast they’ll head out in advance and spray a brine solution to keep snow from bonding with the pavement.

Strang says TIR does their best to make roads safe but ultimately, it’s up to drivers.

“Pretty much the same thing every year: good tires, have your car well equipped, allow more time, keep more distance between you and the driver in front of you, that sort of thing. And just be safe. Slow down.”

Strang says a lot of work goes into preparing the machines, but at the end of the day, it’s the people that keep our roads safe.

“The base staff, the dispatchers, supervisors, our mechanical branch staff are phenomenal and all our support staff at the area office. I feel very fortunate to be a part of that team the way everyone pulls everything together.”

Strang also says whenever plows are on the road, drivers need to stay behind them and keep their distance.
