A social media movement to help bring back the true meaning of Christmas is being embraced by many people in the Tri-Counties.
Derek Lesser, an educator at the Yarmouth High School shared a Facebook group called The True Christmas Movement.
It encourages acts of kindness.
Lesser says we have lost sight of what Christmas is all about.
“All the negativity all the time and on top of that, we’re seeing all the commercialized part of Christmas and I thought that the idea of trying to get some of the real meaning of Christmas back in doing nice things for people would be a good way to move the community.”
Already dozens of people have responded, by buying a stranger a coffee, inviting someone for a meal and helping out those in need to make their Christmas brighter.
Lesser is asking his friends to commit to four random acts of kindness the rest of this month.
