RCMP have confirmed that there were multiple fatalities as the result of a house fire.
Spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Clarke said the RCMP received a 911 call at 12:13 this morning of a house fire on Highway 3 in Pubnico Head.
“We don’t have a lot of details to share at this point. However we can say that the RCMP and obviously local fire departments have responded to a fatal fire in Pubnico overnight and that we will be able to share a little bit more detail later this afternoon.”
Cpl. Clarke says there was more than one fatality but could provide no further details.
She says it was her understanding that two people escaped from the burning house.
Clarke says the RCMP will release more information during a news conference this afternoon at 2 at the Yarmouth Rural detachment.
The RCMP and several fire departments remain on the scene.
The house was destroyed.
