The interim manager of the Yarmouth International Airport says it’s very important to the region and is an asset that needs to be protected.
Alain Muise, the CAO for the Municipality of Argyle, says the airport’s board of directors downgraded the airport’s certification meaning there can be no regular passenger service.
But he says the board is committing to protecting the facility for the future.
“The board is looking at making the airport sustainable for the future, they’re looking at reducing the costs while at the same time maintaining the important service of saving lives which happens more than people think. It’s one of those assets where, you know, you’ve got it. you want to protect, as much as you can, those transportation links in and out. This one happens to be connected to the world and the board is committed in continuing to maintain this airport but in a different way, in a more sustainable way, in a smaller way.”
Muise says the Yarmouth International Airport averages about 1,600 movements a year.
The facility is owned by the three municipal units…the Municipality of Argyle, the Town of Yarmouth and the Municipality of Yarmouth.
