The MLA for Queens-Shelburne says she would support the restoration of Shelburne’s historical boundaries if that is what is decided.
Kim Masland says she often hears from constituents who are still dissatisfied with a 2012 merger of about half of the Shelburne riding with 90 per cent of the Queens riding and around one per cent from Annapolis County.
“They don’t really don’t have anything in common, schools, their doctors, their day care, so I truly understand where they’re coming from.”
Masland says many of her Shelburne constituents don’t believe they have enough in common with Queens.
She says the riding is quite large and that her constituents have concerns with that as well.
“It’s difficult to make sure you’re effectively representing the entire riding,” says Masland, adding that the travel time can be a challenge.
An independent commission looking into electoral representation has suggested using the 2002 riding map as an option for the next electoral boundary commission.
Masland says although she feels honoured to represent all of her constituents, she will support them and the next commission, should the riding split.
