A festive tradition kicks off in Queens County Friday evening. Christmas on the Mersey is three days of events including skating with Santa, entertainment at the Astor Theatre and holiday meals. The official Christmas tree light-up ceremony and parade of light goes tonight. Chairperson Mark Reynolds says they hope to engage the public. He says, “It’s simple to put on events where you just entertain people but to actually have them engaged in the events themselves. With that engagement, people say yeah this area is a cool place and I feel proud living here.” There will also be a ceremony featuring the Acadia First Nations this evening. The event wraps up Sunday evening. There are more details and full schedule on the “Christmas on the Mersey” Facebook page.
