It’s Mental Health Week, and residents of Shelburne County are doing their part to spread awareness.
Shelburne’s third annual Mental Health Walk kicked off last Saturday, inspiring two others in nearby Barrington and Lockeport.
Care & Share founder Dodo Goodwin says these events have an encouraging message.
“It’s to dispel the stigma that is associated with mental illness, and to bring awareness that it’s an illness – it’s not a weakness in any way, shape, or form.”
She says these events will bring the community together.
“Coming together for the one purpose seems to help a lot, they meet their friends there, they talk about it, and they realize that mental health is not so disgraceful after all.”
Goodwin adds she hopes these events will inspire those in need to seek help.
The walks in both Barrington and Lockeport start at 6:30 tonight.
