NSNDP Push For More Healthcare Funding

The leader of the Nova Scotia NDP was in Italy Cross last night.

Gary Burrill spoke about what he feels is a lack of funding for the health care system.

Burrill feels the recent provincial budget isn’t investing enough money in healthcare.

He says wait times for things like nursing homes and mental heath services are unacceptable.

“These are the kinds of problems in which we don’t want to say ‘gosh, I see that you’re in considerable distress but the best we can do is make an appointment for you in six weeks,’” he says.

He says the current wait for mental health care is more than 40 days while nursing home placement is more than a year in some places.

Burrill says the province needs to invest more so Nova Scotians can get the help they need.
