Doctor Accused Of Drug Trafficking Has Case Pushed Back

The case against a Halifax doctor accused of drug trafficking on the South Shore has been pushed back.

Dr. Sarah Jones is accused of writing false prescriptions for Oxycodone.

RCMP laid seven charges against Jones after it’s believed 50,000 pills were prescribed to a patient who never received them.

Her Lawyer Stan MacDonald argued they needed more time because of issues with disclosure.

Jones is also facing charges for fraud, breach of trust and drawing a document without authority.

Meanwhile, a group of women were seen picketing for better prescription drug controls outside the Bridgewater court house.

Drawn by the drug trafficking case against Jones, they want to raise awareness about the cost of drug abuse.

Leslie Tilly, from Greenwood, says a solution needs to be found now.

“We need to put the proper action in place and get the people that are addicted proper help to move on with their lives,” she says. “If we don’t do it now, we’re going to lose.”

Most of the women who were there have lost someone due to drug addiction.

Tilly says they’d like to see police make investigations into doctors making false prescriptions a bigger priority.

Jones is now due back in court on June 8th.
