NSP On Target To Reach 2020 Renewable Energy Goal

Nova Scotia Power says it’s on pace to meet its 40 percent required renewable energy target by 2020.

The company says 28 percent of electricity used last year by Nova Scotians came from renewable resources.

The amount topped the previous high mark of 26.6 percent set in 2015.

Spokesperson David Rodenhiser says they are making significant progress.

“That’s a huge change from just 10 years ago when we were at nine percent.”

He says Lunenburg County is a big part of the success with renewable energy being generated by the South Canoe wind project near New Ross and other turbines at Kaizer Meadow and Whynott’s Settlement.

Together, they produce enough electricity to power 33,000 homes.
