Money from the province will help local municipalities plan for flooding.
The Municipalities of the Districts of Chester and Lunenburg will receive $104,000 towards a study on flood plains.
MODL Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says the study will be a great help.
“Staff will evaluate the information that they receive. And we will look at that and it will probably relate to a by-law or to policy changes within our municipality.”
Bolivar-Getson says the data they collect will help protect homeowners.
“Put information in place to best inform our residents as well. If they are building in a flood plain area that they know that. Because there are [sic] situations where people are not apprised to that information.”
Bollivar-Getson says if the municipality has that information she feels obliged to share it with the public.
The municipalities will be matching the funding to complete the study.
Bollivar-Getson the findings will determine what can be built on potential flood areas are how they are used.
