The Bridgewater Police Service continues to investigate a fire at Pijinuiskaq Park.
Police as well as firefighters responded to the fire during the late night hours of April 22 on King Street.
Deputy Police Chief Scott Feener says they still aren’t sure if the fire was accidental or intentionally set and are working with the town’s fire chief.
“We have used the town’s CCTV cameras and identified some vehicles of interest as well as a pedestrian which we’re trying to follow up on to possibly ID them to talk with them. Not sure if they’re part of it or just a person of interest or a witness.”
A garbage can was engulfed in flames and caused extensive damage to the park’s walkway and structure beams.
Police continue to ask the public to call them at (902) 543-2464 if they have information about the incident.
Meanwhile, the Bridgewater and Area Chamber of Commerce is helping police keep a closer eye on the downtown core.
Executive Director, Dan Hennessey, says the chamber has provided money to the Bridgewater Police Service and Town of Bridgewater for two video cameras in the park.
“We need to do something to help protect both the park area and also the people who visit the town because of the suspicious fire there were no cameras covering the area and it’s an unusual incident.”
Hennessey says the cameras cost about $2,000 and will be installed by the town and police service.
The decision to provide the cameras was unanimous by the chamber.
No word yet on when they will be installed.
