Municipal officials from Lunenburg County recently took a tour of the RCMP headquarters and training centre in Dartmouth.
Staff Sergeant Stephen MacQueen wanted the officials to learn about the training officers undergo, as well as what capabilities and equipment are available.
Mahone Bay Mayor David Devenne says he was impressed with what he saw.
“It’s reassuring to know these capabilities are there. More crime occurs in a cyber – sense than happens on the street, and that’s where the RCMP are doing a lot of their work.”
He says the technology, manpower and resources are well beyond what the town would be able to provide on its own.
“For our expenditure we get a small piece of the RCMP’s complete arsenal when they need it to be here.”
Devenne says its reassuring to know that the money the town spends each year on policing from the RCMP is well spent.
