South Shore Organization Supporting Kids Back On Solid Ground

The doors will be staying open at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the South Shore.

The organization was close to shutting down last year.

An emergency call was put out and the organization hoped to raise $30,000.

Executive Director Vanessa Mossop says the community really came through.

“We weren’t sure if we were going to make it. If we were still going to be here at this point. And what was going to take place from that call out to the community. I’m happy to announce that we actually surpassed that.”

Mossop says over $31,000 came in, not only from private donations, but also through events like casual days.

“We had community members come into the office and give a donation of small or large, up to even $5,000 saying, we want you here. We know what you do and we want you to continue to do what you do.”

She says the funding means the organization is now stable and they can also expand the number of kids being matched with adults by adding staff to their office.

Mossop says they can now focus on their traditional fundraising efforts to maintain their programs.
