Changing Habits Lead To Change In Production At Lockeport Processing Plant

Change is in the works at the Clearwater Scallop processing plant in Lockeport.

Pierce Fisheries Ltd. will no longer be producing bacon-wrapped and enrobed Argentine scallops.

Vice President of Global Supply Chain Darren Bowen was at the plant this morning to explain the change to employees.

According to Clearwater’s Director of Public Affairs Catherine Boyd, the company is trying to meet the demand for unprocessed scallops and is shifting their focus.

However, what that means for plant workers isn’t completely clear.

“We are not clear line of sight on that yet. The facility and the production on those two lines will continue until the end of April. And we’re currently looking at every opportunity to see where those employees might be redeployed.”

Boyd stresses there are no plans to shut down the facility.
