Residents Of Shelburne Urged To Attend Upcoming Meeting On Policing

Shelburne residents are being urged to attend an upcoming meeting on policing.

The town is looking at having the Bridgewater Police Service replace the RCMP to save money.

A proposal was received from the Town of Bridgewater.

The Town of Shelburne is hosting an information session on Tuesday February 20, 6:30 at the Community Centre in Shelburne.

Mayor Karen Mattatall says staff from both towns will be on hand to answer questions.

“I really encourage people to come out and here the proposal, ask the questions. There’s certainly lots of questions we all have, but we’ve made no decision yet. It’s a big item and we need to hear from the public on what they want us to do.”

Mattatall says they spend about a third of their budget on the RCMP contract.

She says the Bridgewater proposal could save $100,000 which she says is significant for a small town.
