A big step forward to get more people connected to the internet.
The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg has approved a contract to Town and Country Property Improvements Limited to create an access road off Highway 10 in Cookville.
The project costs $21,813.
The road will lead to a tower to support internet connectivity.
Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says the road will also help bikers and walkers connect to the LaHave River trail.
“We are in talks now with Transportation, Infrastructure and Renewal to be able to cross Highway 10 at this location. It should be the connectivity that we’re looking for from Halifax right through.”
Bolivar-Getson expects the tower to be constructed by the end of August, with the first internet users gaining access September 1.
“It’s an aggressive schedule but we plan on being on schedule to do that.”
The municipality is undergoing a pilot project to provide wireless internet service in the Sweetland area.
