Final Deadline For MV Farley Mowat

It’s decision day for the owner of a derelict vessel in the Port of Shelburne.

Tracey Dodds has until the end of the day to remove the MV Farley Mowat or he could go to prison for 20 days.

Mayor Karen Mattatall says she’s ready for this situation to be finished.

“Oh, I would love to be able to stop talking about this,” she says. “Certainly, if it’s gone it is our hope that we’ll never need to talk about it again.”

As of this morning the boat was still parked at the Shelburne Marine Terminal.

Mattatall says she’ll have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.

“We will see if he complied. We certainly hope so. We need the space and we certainly don’t need to see that derelict vessel at our wharf.”

She says new legislation expected this month would make it easier to prosecute people who abandon vessels.
