The mayor for the Region of Queens has just announced he’ll be re-offering during this fall’s municipal election.
Christopher Clarke was the region’s first mayor when it amalgamated in 1996.
When he took office most recently in 2012 the Bowater Mill had just closed.
He says despite the setback they’ve been able to keep pushing forward.
“I think we’ve done a lot of work and that we’d like to keep doing that,” he says. “Certainly there’s some challenges facing us, but, I think if we continue down this path I think we’ll be well off.”
Clarke credits a vibrant group of community volunteers for doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
He’s looking forward to beginning his campaign in the next few weeks.
