Bridgewater Teen Named Best Junior Pianist In Nova Scotia

Music is golden for a Bridgewater teen.

Jade Ley took first prize at the Federation of Nova Scotia Music Festivals in Wolfville this past weekend.

The 16-year-old won the Junior Pianist class and received the Maureen Hopkins Memorial Rose Bowl for her efforts.

Jade’s father Web Ley says she is goal-oriented.

“Cause she’s very school driven, she wanted to have her grade ten – through the Royal Conservatory – she wanted to have that done before she reached grade ten in high school.”

Jade already received the regional gold medal from the Royal Conservatory in October.

Web Ley says this makes all the practice his daughter has done worthwhile.

“It’s like the icing on the cake for her. It kind of validates all the work she’s put into it – this is why she’s been playing piano so hard for 12 years.”

She will look to continue her winning ways when she attends the Tuckamore Chamber Music Festival in St. John’s later this year.
