N.S. Auditor General’s Report Says Health Care Infrastructure Is Underfunded by $85 Million

Healthcare is in serious condition according a report issued today by Attorney General Michael Pickup.

Pickup says there is an $85 million shortfall to deal with infrastructure and upkeep on the province’s hospitals.

Healthcare accounts for 40% of provincial expenses.

The Attorney General says some hospitals are too close to each other and government should look for more efficient ways to provide care.

He says many services at Fisherman’s Memorial could be provided outside of a hospital for less money.

Health Minister Leo Glavine will be answering questions about the A.G.s report this afternoon.
