Province To Host Information Sessions For School Board Campaign

It’s back to class for those considering running for a school board position.

The province is offering information sessions that will lay out what the job entails and how to officially join the race.

Trish Smith with the Nova Scotia School Boards Association says it takes a special kind of person to do the job.

“People certainly don’t do it for the money,” she says. “They do it because their passionate about education, and they care about children, and youth, and the future of education in their communities, and in the province.”

Smith says even if you don’t want to campaign there’s important information for voters.

“Sometime the misconception is that in order to vote you need to have a child in the system. That’s not true. It’s open to the same elector base as the municipal election.”

The session for the South Shore Regional School Board takes place tonight at Bridgewater Jr. Sr. High.
