‘Girl Talk’ Hits South Shore Next Month

Things change pretty quickly growing up as a kid.

A program to support young girls is going into its 14th year.

‘Girl Talk’ hopes to make that transition smoother.

It is a four day camp for girls aged 9-12 that has been steadily growing in popularity.

Executive Coordinator of Second Story Women’s Centre, Jeanne Fay says it’s important to support girls during this stage of life.

“Camp increases their confidence in being able to talk about difficult issues. Their self esteem, we do sessions on body image for example.”

Fay adds there are other lessons to be taught.

“Learning more about mental health, a lot of us, not just these girls have family members, friends who are dealing with mental health issues.”

There are five locations for the camp across the South Shore.

It’s being offered seven times throughout the summer.

The first starts in Lunenburg on July 4.
