New Bridgewater School Responding To Need

A lack of home care staff and care assistants has led to the opening of a new school in Bridgewater.

Logan Road is the new location for Futureworx, a not for profit school offering training for continuing care assistants.

Funded through various government departments, Futureworx offers training for people who may otherwise not be able to get it.

Program Manager Christel MacAloney says they are offering CCA training because employers in the area can’t keep up.

“One education provider at this point in time is not able to meet the demand in the workforce. We’re there because we got a call, please come and help.”

MacAloney says 20 students are working to fill that need.

She says they come from all walks of life, but face challenges to employment, which is where Futureworx comes in.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for the local community, for the employers and most of all for the learners that have an opportunity to have one of those seats.”

After a year of training, she expects all students will have acquired the professional and personal skills they need and will be offered jobs in the area.
