Lumberjacks Own First Overall Pick in MHL Draft

The South Shore Lumberjacks have the number one pick in this weekend’s Maritime Hockey League Draft.

It’s one of three first round picks for the ‘Jacks, who also have the third and eighth overall selections.

Head Coach and General Manager, Kyle MacAllister, says they’re in the drivers seat.

“We looked at the possibility of players that may make us better right now, but with the depth that we have on our team for September already that gives us an opportunity to hopefully find those kids that can be the future here.”

MacAllister says there is always the possibility of moving the number one pick but it has to be right for the organization.

“If we believe that means getting an offer that we can’t turn down for the first overall pick, third overall pick or eighth overall pick; we’ll wrestle with that and we’ll make the decision based on what we have and what we need long-term.”

MacAllister believes the Lumberjacks have one of the best teams in the league based on their current roster.

The Lumberjacks have six picks in the eight-round MHL draft, scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Miramichi, New Brunswick.
