Lunenburg Man Makes Facebook Appeal For Kidney

Five times a day.

That’s how often Rob Edwards has to undergo dialysis.

The 37-year old husband and father of two has degenerative kidney disease that has kept him off work for the past year.

Diagnosed seven years ago, he now has only has 5% kidney function.

Edwards says he is on the list to receive a kidney but it’s a crapshoot as to when, or if he will receive one.

“As far as the deceased list goes – it’s the best match. You could be on the donor list for two years, you could be on the list for two months. And if the organ comes up and that one is going to be the best match then it’s your turn.”

Edwards has launched an appeal on Facebook for people to speak with their family doctor about donating their organs.

“We thought we needed to reach out. It’s a hard thing to ask for, but a lot of people have shown interest in being involved, one way or the other. Whether that’s going to help me or maybe help someone else, all the better. If we had more organs in the pool, there’d be less people in the pool needing them.”

Edwards hopes by getting people to talk about organ donation, it may increase the number of organs available and change the life of someone in need.

You can hear the full conversation with Rob Edwards on South Shore Sunday Morning, this Sunday at 9:00am on CKBW.
