Liberal Seat Confirmed in Chester – St. Margaret’s Following Judicial Recount

The Nova Scotia Liberal Party retained their seat in Chester – St. Margaret’s.

An examination of all 8,776 votes in the riding led to only a small change from election night.

Hugh MacKay won his seat by 91 votes instead of 90 that was posted on May 30.

He was status quo with 3,112 votes.

Incumbent Denise Peterson-Rafuse of the NDP lost a vote to finish at 3,021 while PC candidate Julie Chaisson gained one to sit at 2,230. Green Party candidate Harry Ward remained unchanged at 413 votes.

MacKay says he’s glad this part of the process is over.

“I’m looking forward to moving on to the next step which is serving the constituents of Chester-St. Margaret’s and joining Stephen McNeil’s team and working on our commitments made to the people of Nova Scotia.”

Justice James L. Chipman of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia declared MacKay to be elected.

He says he wants to work with those affected by the Liberals decision to cut the Film Tax Credit.

MacKay says he wants to rebuild the relationship with the sector and its partners and move forward.

“The fact that the party has been returned to a majority government is a strong indication the people of Nova Scotia did appreciate the past four years and are looking forward to us now coming through with our commitments for the next four years.”

The date for MLAs to be sworn-in has not been announced.
