Lunenburg Boat Launch Gets Green Light

Lunenburg will get a boat launch this year after all.

Town council decided at Tuesday’s meeting to go ahead with construction on Broad street after contaminated soil delayed work on the site.

The question that remains is how much the town will borrow to pay for it.

Mayor Rachel Bailey says construction of the dock could wait until next year, with that money being redirected to offset the cost of the launch.

“We didn’t come to a conclusion on that, so we deferred that decision, but the project will move ahead.”

Bailey says the remediation of the soil will add $80,000-$90,000 to the build.

She says the $60,000 from the dock would allow the town to borrow less to complete construction on the launch this year.

But the dock is still an integral part of the plan.

“Whether that’s completed this summer or has to wait until early next summer is yet to be determined. There was no question that the project in its entirety should be completed.”

Council has put off deciding how to fund the construction until they meet on June 27.
