New Civic Centre In The Works For Municipality of Shelburne

The Municipality of Shelburne is taking the first steps towards a new civic centre.

Council has issued a request for proposals for a new building design.

Warden Penny Smith says the current municipal building is old and unable to meet the needs of the community.

“Without this initiative, we risk our required government services and good paying jobs being centralized to another part of the province.”

The new building is expected to be 22,000 square feet located across from Shelburne Regional High School. Smith says that means if all goes to plan the new centre will offer an extra 6,000 square feet.

“We’re hoping approximately 2/3 of the building will be used by tenants.”

The RFP closes on Monday.

Smith says she expects they’ll decide which company will win the contract at their next meeting on June 26.
