A Lunenburg landmark is on the block.
The Opera House is up for sale.
Owner Farley Blackman says the thought behind buying the historic building was to save it.
“The goal was, the building stood for a hundred years. We wanted to make sure that whatever we did could stand for at least another hundred years without intervention, and we did that.”
Blackman had been booking shows and developing the Opera House as a centre for the arts.
He says special consideration will be given to anyone wanting to buy the building who shares the same vision.
That could mean a break on the $2.25 million dollar price tag, holding a mortgage or even forging a partnership with a potential buyer.
“We’ll do any or all of that in order to, hopefully, secure the future of the building as a performing arts centre.”
More than a decade and a good deal of money has gone into restoring the building and turning it into a performing arts centre.
Blackman hopes to see it become a focal point for arts in the community.
