VIDEO: Residents Get Access To Church Lake

Local residents can now access Church Lake in the Municipality of Lunenburg.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held over the weekend.

It features a parking lot, a wheelchair accessible dock and a launch area for canoes, kayaks and small fishing boats.

Resident Lennis Corkum has worked to get public access to the lake for 16 years.

However, it took council a little more than two years to develop the space.

“As a kid growing up, we had unlimited access to lakes. With residential development, slowly and slowly we’ve been getting pinched out and we just don’t have public access.”

The municipality’s budget for the project was $137,000, with the province contributing $28,000.

The lake is located along the Newburne Road.
