Energize Bridgewater Turning Heads In Ottawa

A trip to Ottawa turned out to be quite productive for the town of Bridgewater.

Sustainability Planner Leon DeVreede and Mayor David Mitchell were in Ottawa to receive an award from the Canadian Federation of Municipalities.

It recognizes the town for implementing its Energize Bridgewater plan.

Mitchell says the recognition is nice but it’s not the end goal for the town.

“It’s just all these things add up to give that legitimacy to our plan and help us to hopefully access some funding from different partners.”

The next day the mayor met with the federal ministers responsible for innovation and industry to lay out the plan for them.

Mitchell says they were impressed.

“It’s a legitimate plan that can have an impact, not just on our community, but can have an impact on a global scale.”

Mitchell says the ministers agreed to have their departments explore how to get more funding to Bridgewater to help accelerate rolling out the Energize Bridgewater plan.
