Another successful year for Radiothon 2018.
Almost $116,000 was raised for a new ultrasound machine.
The one-day fundraiser is put on by The Health Services Foundation of the South to raise money for medical equipment at the South Shore Regional Hospital.
Alison Clements with the foundation says it’s amazing to think how much money was generously donated by everyone in the community.
“That’s awesome that they actually took the time to think, ‘I want to improve local health care,’” she says.
“And they took the time to call in, or walk in, or however they chose to donate. It’s fantastic.”
An online auction and bucket-brigade were also held leading up to this year’s Radiothon.
CKBW and Country 100.7 partner with the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore for the event.
Eric Whynot, Station Manager, says it’s a perfect partnership in the community.
He says it’s all-hands on deck.
“All day you are on-air and you have people physically in front of you [and] you’re meeting listeners. Some of our sales guys were helping out with getting prizing for the auctions,” he says.
“It is truly a full-team effort, right down to engineering who was over there at 7 o’clock yesterday morning getting it set up.”
To date, the one-day fundraiser has raised over $855,000.
Clements says they’re still counting online donations, so they do expect the number to increase.
Whynot says donations trickling-in over the coming weeks will add to the final tally.
