Federal Government’s Deadline To Legalize Recreational Cannabis Now Up In Smoke

The federal government had planned to have its legal cannibas legislation passed by July.

But now Health Minister Ginette Petipas Taylor says Bill C-45 won’t go to a final vote in the Senate until June 7.

She says the provinces and territories will need eight to 12 weeks after that to get their retail sales networks up and running.

“If you do the math you can see that it certainly won’t be July 2018.”

Late last month the Nova Scotia government announced that nine NSLC outlets would sell cannabis.

There has been no reaction from the province yet to this latest development.
