Valentine’s Day! No Big Deal Says Survey

Whats the big deal about Valentine’s Day anyway?

More than three-quarters of Canadians seem to think the Day of Love is no big deal … its over-rated.

A survey by the coupon website “RetailMeNot.com” has found 78 percent of us think its way too costly.

Many of those surveyed say they don’t even want anything for Valentine’s.

However, website spokesperson Kristen Nelson says don’t necessarily take .. NO .. for an answer. “If you are in a relationship or you are dating someone and they say .. “oh honey, don’t get me anything. We don’t have to do anything big.” Nelson says: “Get something just in case. You don’t want to land yourself in the doghouse!”

Candy is still considered a cool Valentine’s gift, dinner and a movie is considered … passe (pah-SAY) … and many folks will be staying in and cooking up a Valentine’s meal.

Here are more results from the survey:

Canadians surveyed will still spend an average of $42 this Valentine’s Day, with men expecting to spend an average of $54 and women only expecting to outlay $31.

· Quickest way to a man’s heart: A home-cooked meal is most popular way Canadians will celebrate V-Day, with nearly one-third (30 per cent) staying home;

· Dinner and a movie is dead: Only 13 per cent of Canadians plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day with dinner and a movie;

· Ah, young love: Two-thirds (66 per cent) of the country agrees the first Valentine’s Day in a relationship receives the biggest celebration;

· Sweeties for my sweetheart: Chocolate or candy is the number one Valentine’s Day gift this year, with 28 per cent of the country planning to purchase one or the other.
