Nova Scotia’s Fire Marshall is becoming alarmed at the buildup of snow on roofs.
Harold Pothier says there are tell-tale signs to look for when your roof is being stressed by the weight.
He says: “If people are hearing some unusual noises, they’re seeing cracks coming in places that they haven’t seen before or there’s a leakage of water. Then, they should consider getting some assistance to look at the snow on the roof and possibly getting it removed.”
Earlier today, a section of roof of the fire hall in Greenwich in the Annapolis Valley nearly fell in.
However, a snow removal crew was able to chip away the ice and remove four feet of snow blanketting the roof.
