A new support is coming to funeral homes in Nova Scotia.
The province has made changes so people can purchase insurance for pre-arranged funeral plans.
Traditional funerals can cost somewhere in the range of $6,500-$8,500.
Adam Tipert, President of Sweeney’s Funeral Homes in New Germany and Bridgewater, says the change will help clients deal with the cost.
“Right now, if you go to a funeral home and you want to do a prepaid funeral, there is only one option; you have to pay for the service and deposit the monies in trust.”
Now, instead of a financial institution, the money can go straight to an insurance company through the funeral home.
The change takes effect September 1st.
