The Nova Scotia Nature Trust is protecting 18 acres of land in Lunenburg County.
The group received the parcel of land on Pleasant River from Acadia Broadcasting Limited, the parent company of CKBW/Country 100.7.
Executive Director, Bonnie Sutherland, says 70 per cent of land in Nova Scotia is privately owned.
She says those landowners play a critical role in determining our province’s environmental stability.
“What they do on their land is really impacting the future; what Nova Scotia is going to look like in 100 years and what that legacy is that we pass on to our kids. It’s wonderful to see landowners like this come forward.”
Sutherland says the new protected area is home to blandings turtles which are endangered in Canada and at-risk plants like Longs Bulrush.
Acadia Broadcasting was honoured by the Nature Trust last week during a ceremony in Halifax.
