Mersey Skatepark Opens in Liverpool

Queens County is celebrating the opening of a new recreational space in Liverpool.

The ribbon was cut Saturday on the Mersey Skatepark after years of planning and fundraising.

The skatepark, which was designed by Spectrum Skatepark Inc., is considered to be one of the best in the province.

Past President of the Queens County Skatepark Association, Ian Kent, says that was their target.

“We wanted something for the community. Queens County is known to do things well and the whole development of this site is intended to be a really high level recreational facility.”

The skatepark has a large triple bowl, a streetscape, and a flow area, with a small bowl.

There is also a BMX pump track, basketball nets, an outdoor walking trail, and a sledding hill.

Region of Queens Mayor, David Dagley, says the skatepark enhances the community and attracts people to the local area.

“Both inside Queens Place Emera Centre and the skatepark as well as the BMX track and the walking track around the outside. There is something there for people of all ages and we encourage everyone to come visit Queens.”

The Region of Queens, community fundraising and the province helped cover the $560,000 price tag for the project.
